Why does my tank smell after being pumped?

Common causes are a baffle that is still blocked or missing, a dry trap in an unused fixture, a loose lid seal, or a venting problem. It is worth investigating, because a persistent odour after pumping usually means something was missed rather than that the pump-out failed.

Is a cracked tank lid a real problem?

It is more than cosmetic. A cracked lid lets surface water into the tank, which adds hydraulic load the system was not designed for, and it is a safety hazard since the lid can fail under someone standing on it. Lids are inexpensive to replace.

How do I know whether to repair or replace?
